My favorite things

Recently I was asked to fill out a survey for a new client team at work. Standard things like your name, hometown, family, pets ... Then was a whole section about my favorite things. Again mostly the standards color, food, movie, music, actor then it goes into things like store, treats, scent. What? Scent? Come on. It's hard enough for me to come up with the easy ones. I panicked, closed the survey and went back to my work. But it's haunting me. It's due Friday and honestly, I know it sounds crazy but I'm dreading it. You see, I just don't do "favorites".

Sure it sounds like a cop out, but I'm serious. I had to do some soul-searching on this one. I was afraid I couldn't think of my favorite things because I don't have any. Which made me think, "What is wrong with me? Surely I can come up with a list of the things I like best. Am I so indecisive that I can't even pick a favorite? (my husband would say yes, but it's just not true). Then, it hit me -- my moment of truth. I simply don't like to limit myself. No really, it's true. Picking favorites is just too limiting and I like a lot of things.

My favorites are determined by my mood. Take for example a simple question like "what's your favorite food?" My response would be ... to cheer me up -- ice cream. On Friday nights -- pizza. On a beautiful summer day - hamburgers on the grill. On a cold winter evening - a big bowl of chili with cheese and oyster crackers. Guilty pleasure food - chicken fingers with honey mustard or maybe hot wings and french fries. In Georgia - BBQ. In Maryland - crabcakes. And the list doesn't stop here, my friends. And how about music? If I'm driving it's the Indigo Girls. If I'm working it's Jack Johnson, and if I'm cleaning the house it's the Dixie Chicks. See, it's overwhelming. It makes me tired just thinking about it. This is why I don't pick favorites.

So to sum it up -- my tastes are far too refined to be so limited ;-)

I feel the same way too. You should just make things up, or make a long list of favorites, print it out, then close your eyes and point. That will be the most scientific way of performing this task. :) You could also pick on day in your life and chose favorites for that day... but how about Whole Foods or MLB Fan Stores, frosties, lavender?
