A daunting task

Sorry for the delay -- I've really been putting this off, haven't I? I think it's felt like a chore since I had so much catching up to do and hundreds of pictures to go through. Hopefully I still have some readers out there.

Anyway, back to my vacation that was now over a month ago. Where did I leave off ... I believe with Monday. On Monday we slept in a little bit and headed down to D.C. to hit the National Archives and see the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. What an amazing experience to stand in front of those two documents. It's also sad to think that despite all the preservation efforts, you probably won't be able to read them at all in a few more decades.

Here are a few pictures -- and no I did NOT use my flash. That's why they look kinda funny.

Here's the U.S. Constitution

Another shot of the Constitution.

The Declaration of Independence

All the signatures on the Declaration.

After being uplifted by these amazing articles put together by our country's forefathers, we headed to the Holocaust Museum to see the darker side of humanity.

I definitely believe the Holocaust Museum is something everybody should see once because it's important to remember the capability of evil. It's not easy to take but then again it shouldn't be. Allow a lot of time for this one as there is a lot of ground to cover and if you're like me and actually want to read all the information there, it's going to take several hours to get through. At the end of the museum is a very touching tribute called the Hall of Remembrance. I didn't take pictures, but you can see what it's about here.

After the museum we headed home for dinner and to rest up for Tuesday, which involved a full day of walking -- about 15+ miles! Stay tuned for more ... :)

Memories ...

I know I'm supposed to continue my blogs about our vacation with Mike, Lynda and the girls, but I came across this today and just had to post it. We were cleaning the files off of an old computer so we could donate it and this picture was among the many things we rescued.

Not long after Andy and I got married we moved into a house in Canton and got Layla. This is our first MacAlpine family picture together. Well, almost, we couldn't get Oliver in it, but this is close enough :)

OK, that's all I got. I'll continue with the vacation posts tomorrow!
