My company has an executive suite at the Verizon Center -- D.C.'s venue for sports, concerts, and whatnot. It's pretty similar to Philips Arena in Atlanta. Anyway, they use it to schmooze clients and stuff like that, and when they aren't using them, they raffle off the seats to everyone at work. So, I put my name in and won Georgetown vs. Marquette men's basketball tickets for today.
Andy was pretty psyched for the game -- since both teams are ranked in the top 25. We headed out nice and early and actually had what was by far the easiest trip to D.C. that we've taken since we moved here. It was a straight shot to the venue and since my win came with a parking pass, we pulled into the garage and parked right at the entrance. And we never had to brave the cold at all. It was nice to catch a glimpse at how the other half lives. Good times.
They were good seats, and the suite was crazy nice. It even had a private bathroom so you don't have to leave at all. Normally, my company has the whole suite, with the exception being college basketball games. During those games, they split the suite with some other group. There's 12 seats total and then I think you get 4 buddy passes or something. I won two tickets and two other people at work won two each. Those two people never showed. If you do the math real quick that means that with me and Andy, the six seats for the other company, and the four buddy seats, there should have been a maximum of 12 people.
We had the place to ourselves for long enough to get spoiled. Then another couple showed up. Then another. Then two more. Then two more. Then a few more. By halftime there was a good 20 people in our suite. I have no idea who any of them were. Not only did they take over the place, but they brought a full bar and a bunch of food.
At first mention, you probably think, "wow, cool, Andy and Angie got to party with a bunch of strangers and drink their beer and eat their food." Yeah, you'd think so. But no. They didn't share. They didn't offer ... they practically didn't even acknowledge our existence. How rude, right? I mean, if me and a LARGE group of my friends crashed somebody's suite and ordered a bunch of beer and food to be catered, I would've invited them to partake. Oh well, what can you do ... I guess I'm just nicer than some.
Anyway, despite the suite crashers, we had a nice time and the seats were great. Good game too. Georgetown really packs the place. The student section was crazy.
On an unrelated note, we're supposed to get our first real snow next week. I'm not sure what "real snow" means, but it sounds kind of scary. I'll let you know how that goes.
