Happy Valentine's Day -- yep, I'm a slacker

Happy Belated Valentine's Day.

I know I haven't been posting nearly as often as I should, and we've even had some newsworthy events to write about. Last week we had quite a little icestorm. We got a couple of inches of snow Tuesday and then we got sleet and freezing rain all day on Valentine's Day. It was pretty messy outside for a few days. At least we didn't get hit the hardest -- and not nearly as hard as what New York's been going through. But it was worth noting.

As much of a hassle as it is, the ice did make it look really beautiful outside. Unfortunately I didn't really take any pictures worth noting on my blog. As per usual, I did get some good ones of Layla playing in the snow. But to be honest, they don't look any different than the ones from a few weeks ago, so I won't torture you with endless pictures of my dog (no matter how ridiculously cute she is).

Andy had to brave the icy conditions to drive to and from work, but he's used to that stuff. I, on the other hand, worked from home. Georgia folks don't drive on ice. And I think that's probably for the best. In our defense, Georgia just doesn't have all the salters and snow plows out there making the roads safe to drive on. I was pretty amazed when I finally got out on the road Thursday at how clear they were. Those road crews do good work.

So everyone knows, I had every intention of posting a Happy Valentine's Day blog for everyone, but the storm took out my cable, phone, and Internet. At least I had power, unlike 70,000 of my Anne Arundel County neighbors. By the time I got my Internet back, I was so far behind on my work that I had to play catch up for several hours. Andy worked late, which didn't make for a very romantic Valentine's Day, but at least I got some work done. He finally made it home around 11 p.m.

I had baked him a cute little cake, so we had some cake and called it night. We decided to celebrate Thursday instead and had a steak dinner at home complemented nicely with a bottle of Merlot Andy's parents bought us for Christmas. Very nice, mom and dad MacAlpine. It was low-key, but it was perfect for us. We had decided up front that we weren't going to buy gifts, but instead challenge ourselves to come up with romantic gestures instead. Mine was the dinner and cake I made. As for Andy, he spent a few days putting together a special playlist of romantic songs for me on my iPod. Very sweet. Well done, hubby.

This is Andy's cake I made him. I know, the smiley-faced heart's a little much, but that's just who I am. :)
