My mom and I had a great roadtrip together -- just under 12 hours from Annapolis to good ole' Woodstock, GA. It would have been a much greater trip had I not been pulled over in North Carolina. I was going 85 in a 70. I just really wanted to get home. I didn't think 85 in a 70 was a huge deal. Apparently, it is in North Carolina. In fact, anything over 80 is apparently unacceptable in The Tar Heel State. So unacceptable that you can't pay a fine and call it a day. No, no, you HAVE to go to court. That's right my friends, court. C-O-U-R-T. Did I mention you have to go to court?
Knowing I was from Maryland, you'd think the officer would've have cut me the tiniest little break and write me up for 79 in a 70. He'd have the satisfaction of knowing he scared me and knowing that I'd drive slow the rest of the way to GA and probably even back to MD. But NO. Mr. not-only-am-I-going-to-write-you-a-ticket-for-the-whole-amount,-I'm-also-going-to-lecture-you simply couldn't let me off that easily. Despite the fact that I was absolutely charming to him. Oh, but he did generously give me two full months to show up in court. In North Carolina. When I live in Maryland. Thank God for Pre-paid Legal. I just hope they can take care of it. I'm calling tomorrow to see what they can do for me. I'll let everyone know how that goes.
So far it's been a nice visit. Last night I had dinner with Amy, Amanda and LaShonda (and the cutest little boy ever - Elijah). A fantastic dinner with fabulous friends who I don't mention on my blog nearly enough. And Amanda is one of my most faithful readers, so I do need to give her a special shoutout. It was nice to catch up!
Tomorrow the pre-Thanksgiving feast baking shall begin. I'm hoping to catch up with a few more people and am looking forward to Muffin and Sean's annual Turkey Night party Friday. Always a good time with good friends, good drinks and lots of karaoke (which will undoubtedly lead to good stories for the blog).
In case I don't post before then, Happy Turkey Day (or Tofurkey Day for some of you) to everyone!
